Horsetail supports skin integrity

Updated: Sep 14, 2024

Horsetail has a long history of use, both internally and topically for skin, particularly in wound and burn healing. It has the highest amount of soluble bioavailable silica of any herb and is reported to support the skin in strengthening connective tissue, capillary walls, elastin and collagen. This supports the skin integrity and prevention of premature aging.

Whilst other sources of silica include oat straw, stinging nettle, and alfalfa, pasture grasses as well as grains including oats, wheat, barley, corn and rye, horsetail has by far the richest source of organic silica, particularly in the stems of the herb. At Donna-Klare, we incorporate horsetail extract into our products to feed the skin topically.
